HIROKO KOSHINO

KH Gallery Ashiya Special Exhibition from 2018 Exposition Hiroko Koshino Kira —Brilliance of the East and West— Kenji Etori x Hiroko Koshino

Info
2018.06.08

KH Gallery Ashiya will hold the special exhibition “Kenji Etori x Hiroko Koshino”. Etori’s three-dimensional plastic works are human figures molded and shaped from human bodies using wire nets. Their emerging surface creates a vague existence. Attracted by their light atmosphere, Koshino invited Etori for collaboration. Etori who creates human outline from flat wire nets with his hand, and Koshino who has been questioning human spiritual richness through clothes—works by these two artists pursue how the surface should be and depict the inner spirit and life.

In the exhibition, the installation of Etori’s human figure modeled and clothed with a light cloth by Koshino will be displayed along with their individual works. Its creation process is just like the fashion scene where she would make clothes using hands in front of a model. Drapes, twists and volume created in the hands of Koshino cover the body softly and create liveliness, and summer sunlight that shines on the concrete walls produces a dramatic atmosphere.
Please come enjoy the collaboration by the two artists who question the human body and spirit through art and fashion.

KH Gallery Ginza Hiroko Koshino “Sumi-no-Kiseki”

Info
2018.05.25

KH Gallery Ginza will hold the exhibition “Sumi-no-Kiseki”. Sumi, or Japanese ink, is a material Hiroko Koshino is most familiar with. Since her school days when she started drawing fashion style sketches with Sumi to today, she has always worked with Sumi by her side.
The beauty of Sumi and blank space is born from the relation between Japanese paper, Sumi and water. Sumi’s flow and smudge, not always controllable, sometimes create unexpected beauty. Hiroko Koshino always found new beauty in such instantaneous works and developed them to a higher level. A strained air and gentle time—two contradictory images—coexist in traces drawn by Sumi and lead the observers to quietness. As many people in the Orient have found the mystery of the universe and human spirit in Sumi, Hiroko Koshino has been attracted to and deeply in love with the depth of Sumi.

At the exhibition, her past and recent artworks that feature Sumi’s rhythmic shade, smudge and beautiful thin ink will be displayed. For Hiroko Koshino, Sumi is a special material that guides one from the instant to the eternal, and to spiritual depth. Please come enjoy the refined beauty of refreshing Sumi and blank space that makes you forget the summer heat.

*It has been a year since the release of the Western tableware “Sumi-no-Toki” series produced in collaboration by Nikko and Hiroko Koshino. Some of the products will be available for purchase at the exhibition.
