Hiroko Koshino designed the uniforms of the Japanese gymnastics team for the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships which will start on Friday, October 4, 2019 in Stuttgart, Germany.
The concepts of the men’s uniform are “mountain” and “river.”
The ink smudge in the character “mountain” represents speed, as if running at a full speed, and energy soaring higher. The torrent-like brush stroke of the character “river” represents dramatic dynamism and dignified strength, with vigor like that of anadromous fish that go against the current.
The concepts of the women’s uniform are “Kumadori (kabuki make-up) ” and “light”.
The red color of Kumadori is said to represent justice, strength and courage, and the shining Swarovski crystals add gentleness to the strength. Swarovski crystals are also used abundantly to create “light” in the flowing layers of curves.
The World Championships are an important milestone on the way to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Please check out the excellent performance of Japanese gymnasts and the uniforms that support them!
