2017.09.26

“Paintings Visible in Clothing” is being hosted at the KH Gallery Ginza. Hiroko Koshino has had an amazing 60-year career as a fashion designer and she still currently announces 2 collections a year which continue to share beauty ahead of its generation. She has also tirelessly been releasing works of art in recent years creating a unique world combing fashion and art. This exhibition displays clothing works from past collections in three categories of “quality, shape and color” which have been re-defined from the design elements of paintings. Her fashion is captured in a new manner from an artistic perspective. The series with clothing works enclosed in flat and clear acrylic cases allows guests to view in detail this “quality” including different materials for each work of art, handmade decorations and the picturesque structure. Meanwhile, the optical installation features infinite “shapes” which can be imagined from one dress. You can also take in “colors” in KH gallery’s first exhibition of colorful giclée style paintings which sparkle in their own small worlds.
Discovering “works of art” from past clothing could be another step forward in the fusion between fashion and art. Enjoy this unprecedented experience which transcends human form and expands your world of senses.

Hiroko Koshino The Nature

Info
2017.09.01

“Hiroko Koshino The Nature” is being hosted at KH Gallery.
You can see colors and shapes that resemble vestiges and minerals that have been excavated, in paintings by Koshino. This exhibit is a collection of profound and dignified paintings that are contrastive with works that have flamboyant hues, by expressing nature and the passage of time. These paintings, with their elegant hues of gold, silver, and black, are not merely decorative, as they have appearances resembling natural objects that have existed since the distant past, such as minerals and celestial bodies. Also, the shapes and shadows of her relief works resemble land forms that were created by the passage of time. Her obsession with texture has created art in which you can see her attention to detail.
While painting, she comes closer to expressions of nature. Also, she reconstructs ancient materials and leads us to new ones. In our current generation in which artificial items are mass produced, these pieces are valuable expressions of art. By all means, come and imagine the eternal flow of time within nature.

Info
2017.08.04

“Hiroko Koshino Exhibit —COLORS—” will be hosted at the Isetan Shinjuku Store, Main Building, 5th Floor Art Gallery.
At this exhibit, pictures and fashion drawings that she has been working on, in addition to newly painted plates, will be exhibited at the same time, while a large number of colorful creations will be shown to the public at the same time. Her graffiti series, a collection of paintings she painted while being inspired by the graffiti she saw while on a trip in Greece, is one of her most colorful series. These are illustrations in which a large number of pictures drawn on small panels are rhythmically arranged, producing a space with an abundance of colors. Each piece is unique, and viewing all of them at once conjures up the image of streets and playgrounds, and these pieces can be appreciated individually or at the same time. Also, fashion drawings showing the fruits of her progress as a designer will be exhibited at the same time. More than 30 of her unpublished fashion drawings that have been newly reborn as giclee* prints will be exhibited to the public for the first time. Furthermore, the new painted plates that have been created thanks to the help of the NIKKO COMPANY will be exhibited. A variety of color tones are drawn on these white plates, and the phrase “Living with Art”, a concept of Koshino, is inscribed on each one.
These paintings, plates, and fashion drawing giclee prints will be collected together and put on display and on sale. KH Gallery is a place where guests can encounter different charms. By all means, experience both art and fashion through a colorful and energetic world.

KH Gallery Ginza Hiroko Koshino The Portrait

Info
2017.06.20

“Hiroko Koshino The Portrait” is going to be hosted at KH Gallery Ginza.
Koshino has a long history as a fashion designer, and she has painted many fashion drawings. In her fashion drawings that focus on Western-style clothing, you will see human subjects who fulfill the role of a model. Also, these subjects who are expressed as oil paintings are stronger than subjects painted in other motifs used in the past, and they emit the presence of being the main attraction of the piece. In a situation in which a vividly colored young girl plays with animals in front of a black background, a sense of extemporaneity and free creativity are expressed in deep colors, and this painting is reminiscent of the dreams Koshino had when she was a young child. In another piece, the silhouetted subjects with a humorous appearance lying next to a body of water make you think of summer, and a characteristic of her portraits are works that have the feeling of a “story”, such as by her expressing the results of scene development by juxtaposing two images of the same type. Twelve pieces, starting with these unreleased oil masterpieces and including images of women painted on various large and small canvases and also new oil paintings of models wearing clothing from the Hiroko Koshino collection, are going to be displayed at this exhibit. Also, a new series of popular paintings by Koshino remade in a giclee* format is going to be introduced at this exhibit. Enjoy Koshino’s enthusiastic sentiments toward her subjects and this vigorous and spectacular exhibit.
