KH Gallery Ginza/Ashiya Kimono: the Beginning of New Year -Koshino Hiroko Kimono Exhibition-

Info
2016.12.26

The KH Galleries will hold the exhibition, “Kimono: the Beginning of New Year -Koshino Hiroko Kimono Exhibition-" at the two venues of Ginza and Ashiya. With her grandfather running a kimono fabric store, Koshino had been exposed to kimono and traditional performing arts since childhood. Through this deep connection, Koshino has occasionally drawn on such elements as sources of inspiration. From time to time, Koshino would pick up a brush and produce a kimono adorning her own drawing. This practice of wearing one's own drawing, which she has continued for more than 10 years, symbolizes the ultimate fusion of art and fashion. The pines, bamboos, cherry blossoms, and other traditional motifs depicted in light brush strokes give the kimonos significance as not only attires, but also powerful pieces of drawings. This exhibition will be presented in a creative, stylish space where such treasured kimonos are showcased with calligraphy works and drawings.

At the Ginza gallery, enchanting kimonos will be displayed with the key feature consisting of a gorgeous, three-layer formal Uchikake kimono flowing dynamically in the air. In contrast, drawings and calligraphy works created at various periods of time will line the gallery walls, inviting the audience to a brilliant world where fascinating colors overlap with vibrant words and shapes.

At the Ashiya gallery, kimonos will be arranged inside the gallery's unique Japanese-style room and on the curving wall surface, amidst the soft rays of light penetrating through the setting landscaped by architecture Tadao Ando. The exhibition will also display a collection focusing on Koshino's newest oil paintings, orchestrating a sharp contrast between the "Beauty of Japanese Culture."

As we move ahead into the new era, Koshino uses kimono as a medium that transcends time to present her vision of Japanese culture and lifestyle. The KH Galleries invite you to immerse yourself in a setting capturing the Beauty of Japan to start off the New Year, where a rise in the momentum to redefine and present "Japan" to the world will be seen.

KH Gallery Ginza Kazi Ghiyasuddin × Hiroko Koshino TIME AND SPACE – The Density of Time –

Info
2016.10.26

KH Gallery Ginza will hold the exhibition, “Kazi Ghiyasuddin × Hiroko Koshino, TIME AND SPACE – The Density of Time –.” In pursuing abstract works that evokes the landscapes of Japan which are not mere imitations of western oil paintings, Koshino, who has hitherto produced myriads of artworks with her unique sensitivity, chanced upon Kazi’s drawings. Kazi is an energetic Bangladeshi artist who continues to produce drawings while travelling between his home country and Japan, where he has lived for some 40 years. Intellectual and abstract, Kazi’s drawings remind their audience of the landscapes and culture of Bangladesh, emanating a taste which almost resembles faith. Koshino found herself deeply relating to the spirituality of the artist devoted in drawing the things that he believes in. Likewise, Kazi had also been struck by the passion for drawing that he felt from Koshino’s masterpieces and had therefore been longing to work on a collaboration.

This exhibition will finally bring the two, distinctly independent but resonating worlds together. Kazi will showcase abstract paintings including his latest oil-painted masterpiece as well as watercolor paintings, while Koshino will present works that she had never showcased in Ginza, where her unique method of allowing non-calculated outcomes to come in to play. Beauty, according to Koshino, “transcends time and space.” Those words reflect the artist’s determination to pursue beauty that takes root in the native landscapes that she experienced herself, despite the backdrop of the chaotic confusion brought about by today’s modern society. KH Gallery Ginza invites you to come enjoy the intense artistic experience that is built upon the bond and trust which the two artists have nurtured over time.
